#WomensHistoryMonth: Tory Burch

Tory Burch, the fashion designer and businesswoman from Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, has left a mark on the fashion world with her globally renowned company. She is dedicated to empowering the next generation of female entrepreneurs by providing mentorship and crucial financial support. Recognizing the challenges faced by women in accessing capital and opportunities for business growth, Burch established the Tory Burch Foundation, through which she provides aspiring female entrepreneurs with essential resources such as access to capital, education, and mentorship programs.

Burch got her start in the world of fashion when she moved to New York City to work for a fashion designer and later began a career in public relations and advertising at other fashion brands. After a few years, Burch boldly branched out on her own and started her own fashion line that is now valued at more than $3.5 billion. When she designs any piece of clothing or accessory she asks herself first, “Would I wear this?”  Her ability to design workwear that connected with women everywhere gained her global recognition and continues growing her business worldwide.

I find her story inspiring because Tory chooses to invest in women like herself. Burch’s passion in seeing women business leaders succeed with her is embodied in her own words: “Always support others, never be jealous.” This resonates with me because mentorship programs have been critical to my own academic, professional, and personal growth. Burch's commitment to fostering a supportive ecosystem for female entrepreneurship continues to inspire women across the nation to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.

“We need to get women to the point where they aren’t apologizing. It’s time to take ownership in our success.” - Tory Burch
