What WPLN is Reading, Watching, Listening to, and Excited for: March 2024

READING | The Women by Kristin Hannah: This month, we're diving into Kristin Hannah's bestseller, The Women. This story of an Army Corps nurse is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices women make for their country and the perfect read for #WomensHistoryMonth! Get the book here.

WATCHING | Shirley on Netflix: This biographical drama about a woman with many "firsts" is the perfect movie to watch during Women's History Month! Starring Regina King, Shirley tells the story of Shirley Chisholm, who was the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress. When she later ran for President of the United States in 1972, she became the first Black candidate for a major-party nomination for President of the United States and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

LISTENING TO | The 19th's bonus podcast episode, "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex joins SXSW Panel on Representation": The 19th recently launched its first ever podcast, called The Amendment, and this bonus episode on representation is taken from a South By Southwest panel moderated by The 19th editor-at-large Errin Haines, featuring journalist Katie Couric, actor Brooke Shields, sociologist and DEI consultant Nancy Wang Yuen, and businesswoman and former actress Meghan Markle.

EXCITED FOR | The 2024 women's basketball tournament, which kicked off on March 20. We love to see women in sports because studies show that sports help women develop leadership skills and confidence. Plus, we're excited to see women chase their dreams and show their skills — and break some more records!
