What WPLN is Reading, Watching, Listening to, and Excited for: February 2025

READING | The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt: In this book, Jonathan Haidt argues that we're overprotecting our children in the real world and underprotecting them online. While we remain skeptical about the unintended consequences of some of his proposed solutions, we appreciated learning more about how "phone-based childhoods" are affecting the youngest generations.

WATCHING | The Six Triple Eight, based on an all-black, all-female battalion in WWII: Tyler Perry directed this war drama, which is based on the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion — the only all-black U.S. Women's Army Corps unit to serve overseas during WWII. This battalion sorted and delivered millions of pieces of mail to American service members stationed in Europe, helping to boost their morale.

LISTENING TO | WPLN's Tips from the Trail podcast: WPLN launched our podcast earlier this month, and our first episode features former U.S. Representative Mimi Walters, who also serves as WPLN's inaugural Honorary Co-Chair. In this episode, she shares some powerful insights and advice, including her own journey to political office and how she overcame fears and navigated finding consensus while serving in Congress. You can find WPLN's podcast on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts!

EXCITED FOR | Women's History Month! For far too much of history, women's accomplishments were underappreciated and underdiscussed. We at WPLN always appreciate the opportunity to honor the legacy of the trailblazers who came before us!
